The inevitability of getting severely ill while traveling finally hit me four days ago.
I had a fever and extreme stomach pain suddenly at lunch after work on Thursday (October 12th). After being taken to the local clinic in Tecpan the next day it was discovered that I had amoebas aka stomach parasites. Fun!
For the past few days it has been frequent trips to the bathroom and laying in pain. I couldn’t eat anything without feeling it immediately and rushing to the bathroom. Taking medicine twice a day that in the beginning only made me feel worse.
Honestly as I have had so much time to myself to contemplate such, I do think that this has been the most sick I have ever been. That I can remember at least.
During this time I did get to read a lot, which is one positive to come of this. I started and finished Slaughterhouse-5 by Kurt Vonnegut (one of my favorite authors) and started The Da Vinci Code which I am almost done with now. Two great books that I’m glad I had the time to read.
However, today marks the first day I allowed myself to venture outdoors and I plan on attending work tomorrow feeling almost 100% normal again.
